Purpose of this site

The NZ SMC Calculator is a free, independent tool that helps you check whether you may qualify for New Zealand residence under the Skilled Migrant Category (SMC) points system. New Zealand uses a simplified 6-point model where points come from qualifications, skilled work experience, and occupational registration or income — and you generally need 6 points to be eligible.

Because points stack in specific ways — and a higher qualification or more years of skilled work can change your total — it is easy to miscount. This tool adds up your points so you can see where you stand before applying.

How it works

The calculator runs entirely in your browser. It applies the SMC 6-point framework — qualification level, years of skilled work in New Zealand, and registration or income thresholds — and shows your total against the 6-point requirement. Rules are simplified; Immigration New Zealand governs.
